Stern Boys & theMILL Fall Retreat Go Hand in Hand

A few weekends ago, I attended my last MILL Fall Retreat.  It was my fifth one and the feeling was surreal.  It wasn't like past years where I looked to the future, but rather, I found myself thinking about my history with theMILL and how it's been life-changing.  I came to theMILL in 2004 broken - sulking in my own self pity from making dumb mistakes.  Well, it was only a relationship that didn't pan out, but I sure thought my life was over.  Fortunately, theMILL was (and is) full of life-giving people that care.  I was so thankful for the friends I made at theMILL - Nick White, Ryan Wegenast, Kevin DEESE, Evan Martin and so many more were there at my side to help me through life as a 20-something.  Little did I know, theMILL turned into my community and family.  Oh, I also found my wife there...hehe.  theMILL is an amazing place for those to find others to live life with.  There are endless questions and uncertainties that life brings, and theMILL community can help you figure that all out.  So, if you are reading this, you must check it out.  theMILL takes place on Friday nights @ New Life Church in the Theatre. And it starts at 7PM.  You can find out more details at http://www.theMILLOnline.org.

The last two years, I have taken photos at theMILL Fall Retreat, so I thought I'd post some.

Below is the infamous Horse, Knight, Rider game.  It can be violent, but it's soooo much fun.

More Horse, Knight, Rider and a group shot during the first of two weekends.

Crooked Creek Ranch (Young Life Camp) is where we have theMILL Fall Retreat.  Recently, they built this sweet wiffle ball field.

You think Aaron will hit it?

Getting ready to take a ride on a giant swing. Giant.

Yes! I love his face...

Part 2!

Aaron and Jossie Stern have become great friends of ours.  They are great pastors, leaders and parents.  They have 4 boys - Parker, Cohen, Brooks & Smith.  Smith is their youngest and has the cutest eyes!  Anyways, I did some photos of the boys during the week between retreats.  They learned how to fish!

This is Smith - their youngest.

What a stud! Look at those eyes.

Brooks picking up a fishing pole for the first time.

I love his face here.  This is the challenge of photographing kids. They are either shy or goofy.

I totally got Cohen by surprise on this one.

The photo to the right is Parker realizing I'm taking a photo of him...haha. I got you, Parker!

All 4 - from left to right. Smith, Brooks, Cohen and Parker.

I love the photo of Parker walking with the fishing pole (the one on the right) and the one of him just above it standing on the pier. Love them.

Jacob you're so talented! these are such enjoyable photos - each one tells a story that seems greater than the one before.

Those are AMAZING! The ones of the boys are incredible - Smith really does have incredible eyes! And I love how expressive Brooks' mouth is. And Cohen is awesome. And the ones of Parker - wow! They are like portraits of boyhood. So great!
